I have always done a base bow, then spikes then surround a bow and then my top bow which is smaller than my base.

But to each their own....No right or wrong way!

I'm very new at this so I've been doing a lot of experimenting and this was a question I pondered as well. I tried stacking bows in different ways and I still need to practice with my spikes looking well but I have to tell you:

I get the most compliments on bows that have a base bow. It seems to give the whole bow a lift. It lifts the spikes up from laying flat and also lifts the top bow up higher. I think you can definitely see the base bow too! Especially from different angles. I'll post a bow of mine, like I said, I'm new at this. But see, I think you can see the pink base bow, right? (Sorry, don't know how to make the pic smaller?)

Well, it looks like it's going to be something that I have to play around with to see what works for me and what I like. I was just wondering what the point was if you don't see the bow.

I've never made a (good) TBB before so I honestly have no idea what the difference is with the look of an OTT or whatever.

It's like the foundation of your house...Not really meant to be seen, but makes the rest of the bow look better.

Agreed!

That being said, I dont always use one. If I do I almost always use the pinwheel bottom though. I think it helps it sit flatter. BUT, it will make your whole bow bulker. I kind of dont like that it is hard to pinch and put in the hair with all the layers though.

It adds height too! But it does show when ur looking at it when its worn and from the sides. You just cant see it when your looking straight down at it from the top, so if your planning on taking pictures of your bows to sell them, then u might want to take pics at different angles to show all the different layers and ribbon.

This is adorable! May I ask what type of base bow you are using here?(pinwheel, basic, tbb, etc.) Either way, it looks great!
