Default How do you get the backs off of buttons?

I have just bought some really great vintage buttons and they have the shank on the back and I don't know how about getting them off. I have heard to use a jewelry tool, but I dont have one of the those. What do you ladies use? I hate to just do trial and error and end up ruining half my batch because they are so pretty...and expensive thanks!

I think a lot of ladies use pliers or wire cutters. Maybe someone else can help you out though!

Wire cutters work but most of the time I use scissors on a button

I use flush cutters (green handle) from wmart. They are in the jewelry making section.

At Joanns I've seen a tool called a shrank remover. They are usually in the button aisle. I myself have never used one but it might be worth a try.

The ones with hard plastic I use my scissors. I would do what the other ladies say if it's metal.

If you have a wood burner and it is a plastic button you can use it

I use a flush jewelry cutter from Hobby Lobby, they are often 40% off, so no big investment
