When I was in high school they offered them to everyone in the school to buy. Usually it was just the players on the teams. We didn't have football so we had them for Basketball. It was a HUGE deal. The BIGGER the better. See not everything is BIGGER in Texas! lol Us Okies like them big too! Anyhow, we moved 60 miles away and they only used them for the Homecoming court that's CRAZY! I love them and I have my girls addicted to them too. I am going to be getting some things for them in a couple of weeks. So when I get them done I will post some pictures. That way we can all see how they turn out!

I miss those good old days. Our mums were huge! One of mine had a small cow bell on it. The guys would wear garters on their arms all decked out with mini mums on them. To this day they seem to be bigger and more gawdy than back in my days. My cousin's played music last year.

I had to look this up. . . we don't have anything like this in California! Homecoming yes. Mums no. It sounds like everyone has great memories of them though, and that's awesome!

Mine had lights on it too and had all kinds of bells and whistles on it.

I only ever had one.. My freshman year I didn't wear one because I had just moved to TX from AL the summer before and I had no idea what mums even were. My Sophomore year was the year that I wore the huge, gorgeous mum that my mom made. I was homeschooled my junior and senior year, so i never got to wear/make another

I wish I still had my mum. It was hanging up in my closet on a hanger and I was looking into getting it framed, and then we had our house fire and I lost it..

I wish I had more pictures of it.. I didn't really take pictures of it because I thought I would have the actual mum forever

Me and my friends made our own mums for homecoming every year. Most of the stores here in Texas sell them around that time. They usually have a whole section of things in Hobby Lobby/Michaels year round here. They can get pretty pricey depending on what you put on them. I knew a girl in my high school who had one that wrapped around her whole body. It was over the top expensive. I think she spend like 80 bucks on it if I am correct.

I always thought every state used them. lol

OMG those cow bells were so annoying that my school made is put tape on them haha. They do seem to get bigger and bigger every year.

I am assuming it is mostly a Texas thing. I guess its because football is a major deal here. I have friends in Oklahoma and Louisiana and they never did the mum things either.
