Default Help Please!!!!!!!!

Hello everyone.. Im new to this site and am very excited to learn these wonderful hair bows technique. Hopefully one day i could get as good as you ladies. Well i went out and bought some ribbon to start practicing these hair bows technique and i havent been able to do not one bow I realized i bought some satin ribbon and they just dont come out right I guess i shouldve gotten the grosgrain ribbon???? I really didnt know they were different So my question to you ladies is, is there anything i could do with this Satin ribbon? Should i go and try to find some grosgrain ribbon to start off? Im going to try to go to Michaels tommorow So do you ladies suggest i just go and grab some of that ribbon instead? what else would you consider a must have for a beginner? thanks soooo much for your help im really tired of going back and forth to the store and not picking up the right things im getting a bit discouraged and i really dont want that. thanks again

I haven't been making bows for a long time either and, like you, I bought satin for my first bows. Here is a tutorial that I got on here for bow tie bows. I used my satin for these.

Hope this helps and don't get discouraged. The grosgrain ribbon will help, but it takes a lot of practice.

These flowers look great with satin, and you can attach to clips, headbands, etc.:

You could also fold the satin in half lengthwise, then do a running stitch for a different look.

Don't get rid of the satin...you can put it to good use making some rolled or folded roses. I would use the grosgrain for making bows though. I know you mentioned you have a Michaels but do you have a Wal Mart store nearby or a Joanns? For me it was much easier for me to work with stiffer grosgrain like the Offray Brand. Joanns and WM both carry this brand of grosgrain. I would start with 7/8" ribbon.

Learn the basic boutique bow first before venturing out to harder bows like the twisted boutique. If you have any questions let me know...I will be more than happy to help you through this.

Aw Ronnie thanks sooo much for offering your help I feel so much better now. Yes i have both Walmart and Joanns. Actually Walmart is closer to me than Michaels. i just thought that maybe i wouldve found the ribbon easier at Michaels, but if You say walmart has some, im going to check them out first Thanks again

I am not a big fan of Michaels grosgrain ribbon. It is too soft and flimsy. I prefer stiffer grosgrain. Our Joanns here has a better selection btwn them and Wal Mart. Hobby Lobby has great prints but they are a real soft and flimsy too.

There are a ton of great instructions on bows here. If you go into this thread I have listed a bunch of great places to check out for instructions and tutorials.

Here is the basic bow tut I am talking about that everyone should master first before venturing out. Once you have that mastered then the rest should come easy to you.

The only thing different in those instructions is I would use a wood burner to seal my ribbon ends instead of using Fray Check. Fray Check stains and doesn't work very well.
