Default Attaching bows to alligator clips

I've done it again. I ruined some beautiful bows trying to attach them to a single prong alligator clip. Hot glue is all over everything and I couldn't keep the clip open long enough to pull the knots tightly around the clip. They are a mess. Does any one have any tips on how to neatly get bows onto the clips? I have a glue pad that I put them on to dry, but that isn't helping to get them on neatly.

I only wrap the ribbon around the alligator clip with my small clippies or mini ruffle clips because the clip shows and i dont have a problem keeping it open get the ribbon secure, but i will tell u for all my other bows i dont wrap around the clip. I just glue my center ribbon at the bottom, wait till it dries then glue it to a lined alligator clip and hold it there until it is dry and secure. I have not had a problem with it coming off yet. Do you maybe use too much glue for it to be all over the place? Have you tired using less glue?

I also think its too much glue. I take a lined clip, put a bit of glue on it for the ribbon that will be the middle of the bow, let it dry, then put some glue on the top of the lined clip and place the bow on there, then secure it with the ribbon and glue the ribbon on the bottom.

I also keep that middle ribbon attached to the spool or in a long piece. When I don't have to hold my hands and all the things really closely I make better bows. So I can set the bow on the lined clip make sure its where i want it, then wrap the middle ribbon. I can adjust how tight the ribbon holds the bow on before adding glue and let the glue dry before clipping the edge of the ribbon.

I also only wrap the ribbon around the clip on smaller bows, otherwise I just put a thin line of glue on the top of the lined clip and then attach it to the bow. I haven't had a single one come off yet, and the glue spreads out because I hold the bow to the clip nice and tight. Also make sure your glue is really hot so it doesn't cool down too quickly and imo grabs the ribbon much better.
