Default Anyone use RIT dye on frayed flowers?

I'm using it right now on the white chiffon flowers we got in. Walmart didn't have a ton of colors though! I was disappointed. I wanted a HOT pink. I found petal pink and looked for formulas to make hot pink. Of course I don't have fushia to make that happen.

Anyway, how do YOU use RIT dye? I did the 3 gallons of water in the sink with HOT water and a packet of dye. I feel like I wasted a lot of dye though because there is tons left. Do you prefer the sink method or boiling? Any tips on where to buy other colors?

i do a lot of dye-work...it's tricky in that you get different results for different materials, different dye-batches (even when i think it's measured exactly the same, timed the same..) etc. it's not an exact science.

there are many diff ways to do it, it's trial and error and figuring out what works and what doesn't...

I did the sink method on some cheesecloth I used the liquid one I got it from Joann's they had fushia it was a little more pricey than wal-mart but they had a good selection. I ended up having to wash on the handwash cycle to get out the excess dye

I use rit dye and the stove top method. I also add little salt to get deeper colors. I then rinse well with water and little dreft before i hang them under shade.

This website has numerous colors

http://www.bestdye.com/fabric-dyes.php

i never bought from there but i am sure they shd have some wholesale discount.

Ok I chose the sink method but did almost boiling hot water into the sink. The lavender turned out light in some spots and darker in others. Right now I'm doing pink.

I did dye some FOE and it turned out BEAUTIFUL! no lighter/darker spots. All the same color I will keep experimenting with it. My Joanns is far so I ordered fushia online. Beats driving there. I will keep experimenting! Now to tie dye FOE. Yes, I have NEVER tie dyed anything in my life. Should be interesting!

Thanks for the link Vanitha!

you are welcome. sometimes the purple does that to me. you have to mix it really well before immersing the fabric.
I use rit for skinny elastics. The black rit gives me grey color, the dark brown makes olive..it is a weird combination for every color i mix.

I did the stove top method, but it still makes up a whopping amount of dye that you feel like your wasting. Also be sure you wet your items before immersing them in the dye mixture. So far I've only mixed up the pink, it's a beautiful lt to medium pink, I have some green and purple and haven't tried it yet. I also bought some Tulip brand at HL, haven't tried this one yet either.

I use the liquid RIT dye & just boil water in the microwave & do it in some glass bowls of mine. I do a lot at once b/c the colors come out different EVERY time I dye. I never get them the same. lol.

Here is the RIT color chart that I use. It usually works. I have all the colors that I've gotten from joann (slowly got them using 40% off coupons

http://www.ritdye.com/colorit_color_formula_guide

I've also used TULIP dyes & they work okay, but they are not as dark and take forever to set.
