I've only made a couple of tutus but always used the tulle that comes on the rolls (Found at Hobby Lobby or Michaels) I just cut it 18-24 inches and then fold and tie to my elastic. *IF that makes sense

If it is still too long for you just snip what you don't need.

I have never made one that needed to be sewn.

for my single layer tutus i also use 2 or 3 pieces of tulle for each knot however i could be mistaken but that one looks as if its more then one layer it is very pretty though

I do like they say above, 2-3 strands per knot and as many as possible without stretching the elastic. The ones made on the crochet headbands also look like you can cram alot of tulle on them...trying that next myself. Attached a pic of one I did with 3 layers per knot...

that pic is amazing!! I agree use 3 strands per knot, but definitely tie a square knot, not a slipknot

Gorgeous pic and tutu! Love it!

To Betty:

All my tutus turn out poofy and full. Just use multiple strips.

I agree with multiple strips, fit as many as you can on the elastic while still having some stretch.
