Default Iron-On Transfers... eeek

Last night I got this great idea that I could make my own "printed" ribbon using iron on transfers. People do it all the time, right? So I found a lady (very sweet) selling the template on etsy and I bought it. Today, I printed and tried to apply the iron on transfer... We'll just say it ended badly.

Can anyone give me pointers?

Good luck. I just do my website on ribbon to label my clips and I do not think it is good enough for printed ribbon so I will not even try. There's a tut around somewhere on how to transfer an image from plain paper to ribbon, but I'm not sure if it works. It's seem like a tedious process. I'd like to know if there's a way to just get the image without the extra transfer junk around the edges, kwim? Was that your only problem or was it smeared or something?

I can't get more than 2 consecutive sections ironed on before something messes up.

The last one I tried before I took a break - it came out feeling very stiff and the heat from the iron had "warped" the ribbon (for lack of a better description.)

I followed the directions that I had to a T - but I Can't seem so make it work right.

The key for the transfer to work you need a HOT iron and a hard surface, no ironing board. I personally use a small wood cutting board with a scarf/handkerchief underneath and once you place the transfer paper on the ribbon and your iron on top leave the iron for about a minute on top of the transfer and ribbon...it's more of a waiting game than anything else. If you just pass the iron as if you were ironing a shirt its not going to work. Let it cool down COMPLETELY, if its still warm leave it alone. HTH
