A lot of ladies use a woodburner. I have one but have not tried it yet. Do a search on here for woodburner and they give a lot of tips.

Fold your ribbon in half and "kiss" the ribbon with the lighter going in a straight line across the edges of your spikes. Make sure the pieces aren't touching. If they touch they will stick together.

My best way is a woodburner, I tried them all. I still sometimes mess up. But definately better turn out with the woodburnter. You can use the tip or the side of the barrel.

I do this too. I am horrible with my woodburner and my spikes are very even and crisp when I do this. If they get stuck together, just gently pull them apart and you might have to snip some of the melted ribbon strands off. Never leaves my spikes looking bad though. They are super clean lines!

I used the lighter method too. I fold my ribbon in half, cut the "V" and then start at the bottom of the V go up one side with the lighter and then up the other side of the V with the lighter. You can see it singing the ribbon as you go and with practice this will become easier and easier. If you have scrap ribbon you can practice on that would help. HTH!

I use a woodburner, a metal ruler and a picture frame. I lay the ribbon on the picture frame, place the ruler where I want to cut and cut the ribbon using the woodburner works like a charm

I to do this. Its very easy to seal them with a lighter if you remember that it doesn't take much heat at all to melt the ribbon. I run up mine very quickly and it goes well. It does take practice but it gets easier as you go. Im going to give the woodburner a shot as soon as I get one for my B-day next month.
