Default Singed flower help, PLEASE

I have been practicing my singed flowers and they are coming out pretty good. I am happy for the most part. My question is, how do I NOT get the black burnt edges? I have had the worst time with this. On some I dont mind but some I would it rather not have black spots on it.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

I make tons of these and every fabric burns differantly so the trick is finding just the right distance from the flame to hold the fabric. Try holding your fabric off to the side of the flame a little instead of directly over the top. Also make sure that the wick on your candle is short, longer wicks tend to give off black smoke that can discolor your flower. Hope this helps a little.

Are you using a tea light candle? I don't usually get black edges. I get dark edges on dark fabric. I am thinking it could be the type of fabric you are using or not turning your fabric fast enough. Here are some of mine.

the other ladies already gave some great advice... my only other suggestion is no fan/air blowing on your candle while you are trying to singe. You need a nice steady flame. I always turn off my ceiling fans and vents in the room while I work. Tea lights also work best for me. Good luck!

Thanks everyone! I had a feeling it might be the candle I was using. it was a regular votive candle not a tea candle. I bought some last night but didnt get a chance to try them yet. I did use a lighter though and didnt get the dark edges. I just dont like using the lighter cause I get burnt ALOT lol.

Thanks again for your help. When I get one done, I will post a picture for you.

Please let us know how they turn out. I'm famous (infamous?) for setting mine on FIRE!! Ugh!!! I try to keep the fabric far away from the flame, but then I get impatient and end up with scorched ends. Anyway, I'd love to hear how the tea light works for you!!
