Unhappy I just ruined 5 yards of korker ribbon

I'm so aggravated

This is the 2nd time I've had an entire batch of korker ribbon ruined. What in the world am I doing wrong?

I rolled them all up, misted them with a 50/50 starch combo and baked at 275 degrees for 25 minutes. I have always used the same temp/time recipe. The first batch I ruined (about 2 months ago) was only misted with water.

So, here they come out of the oven and all the white parts of the ribbon are now deep gray. It was ribbon that was black with white and pink circles on it.

I guess it doesn't matter what color it *was*. It's now garbage

Is there any help for me?

I don't starch mine, but then again I haven't starched any of my bows yet. I plan to start... so I'm curious if that is what could have affected the coloring??

Would that solve my problem? Do you spray before or after? (or both?)

Bleh, I'm upset

I've sprayed my finished bows with the 50/50 solution and let them air dry. There hasn't been any issues.

So why are the korkers getting ruined? (sigh)

There have been several discussions on this but it's been a while- I know it was advised to bake longer at a lesser temp but let me see if I can find specifics!

I noticed that when I do korkers, the ribbon tends to bleed onto the dowel. Then when you use it again with a lighter color ribbon it will transfer the dye on to it. The best solution is that you use a dowel only for that specific color. Sorry you had to go thrugh that. Hope it helps.

I spray my finished bows with starch from a can but I don't bake them. The one and only time I korked ribbon I waited until it was out of the oven then sprayed it while it was still on the dowel.

I don't spray before baking. I spray after the korkers are completely made

And when the ribbon is dotted, put a piece of foil over the pan to keep the direct heat off the ink.

Oh, and turn the heat down to 255 for 35-40 minutes for the dots

I don't spray at all with anything before baking at 250 for 25 min. I have a gas oven. (I don't know that that matters). If I starch, it's after I sew the korker and I spray it with aerosol spray starch. Sounds like maybe your oven runs hot and is burning your printed ribbon (prints are a little more finicky).

Try a little cooler?
