I have made pony-o streamers and tails down bows with longer tails on pony-os for our local softball teams.

Guess it really depends on where you live. I made ones for one of the high school softball teams here and this is what they ordered. I showed the coach all the styles and she picked this one....

My grand daughter's teams in MI are not allowed to wear any metal so I attach the bows and korkers in team colors to pony o's. Ask the coach first if they are allowed to wear something on metal and go from there.

Both my girls play softball so thought I would offer my opinion.
Batting helmets and bows can be a huge nightmare if they are on a clip. I usually make a cheer style bow attached to a pony-o for some of the older girls.
However my girls have never had a hair cut and have extremely long hair so I always french braid it or part it down the middle and french braid both sides which is a popular hair style for most of the softball girls because it keeps it out of the way so we usually tie a ribbon on the ends. When they played t-ball I made small korkers attached to pony-o's and put those on the end of the braids. HTH

Pony streamers are good for softball. Metal is usually a no no because if they were hit on the head the ball could cause the metal to push into their head and cause more damage than if it was just the ball.
I've done smaller pony streamers for pig tails and regular pony streamers.

I agree. Either pony streamers or a cheer bow. The only difference I would make with the cheer bow is I would use 1 1/2" ribbon instead of a standard 2 1/4". I think at 2 1/4" the ribbon would be too wide. Either way, if they want sparkly bows or streamers, you can always add some sequin material to the ribbon of whichever hair accessory you choose.

I know in the Girl Softball World Series, I have seen lots of BLING on the girls. They tend to like sparkly!

Hi,

It depends a lot on the girls' age,

My older girls always seem to want the glitter headbands, like Jenny Finch's. Or streamers with bling or zebra, cheetah, etc. Anything showy!

My younger girls seem to like the ponytail streamers. I've made some with only 3 ribbons, others with up to 7 or 8, just depends on the girl and the length of her hair sometimes. I've cut the ribbons shorter for girls with short hair as well.

All are made without any metal, and can be worn comfortably under both batting helmets or a catcher's helmet as well as a visor.

Poofy boutique or that kind of bow mostly don't work. Even if you put it on a pony-o, it will get pulled down or out of her hair when she takes her batting helmet off, due to it's size.

Good luck!!

Both my girls(16yo,7yo) play on club, HS and travel softball teams and there is no metal allowed, the umpires are really strict and do check the girls. Pony-o's , glitter headbands, and tails down cheer bows all work well with their helmets and visors. The Rec league is not as strict with accessories, but if the bow is big, its uncomfortable under their helmets.
