Default First Petti-tutu -- How is it?! :)

This is my first Petti-tutu and I would love to hear what you guys have to say about it. Don't be afraid of telling what you think, what I should change, shouldn't change etc. You won't hurt my feelings

Thanks so much! I value all of your comments!

I absolutely love this!! How did you make it? If you did it on elastic how did you gt it to be so poofy and it looks so nice around the elastic as well!! Also how did you tie the pieces on because when I do it to mine they slide off!!

Great job Love it!!

Thank you

This is done on a 3/4" elastic. I make sure I have about 5 strips/inch to give it the puffiness. I'm a bit anal about how it sits on the elastic so I probably take more time to tie them then other people. The good thing about a solid colour is that I don't have to worry about it as much lol

I have tried many different knots and all of them if pulled a certain way will slide off. I'm trying to think of how to describe how I tied it. I really can't describe it, but tonight I can take pics and post them.

The way I did it seems to be working fine. My daughter has been wearing it all day and there have been no issues, even my 17 month old son got mad at her and started to yank on the tulle.

Ha ha my son yanks on the ones I make all the time!! Ya I tried doing the double knot on the elastic and I have 1" elastic and I'm gonna try it on there. I just hate how big and bulky they look when I do the slip knot and I also hate when the elastic folds so I get mad and go back to my crochet head bands lol. So when you say you used 5 strips how do you get the knots to not look bulky lol. I have been researching tons of tutu tutorials but I can't find good ones and I like them super FLUFFY! When I do several pieces of tulle on one knot it looks awful!! Thank you for your response!! I ask questions all the time and get no help most of the time lol.

I haven't tried multiple tulle in one knot yet. I've only been doing 1 strand at a time with the "U" knot. Like I said, I'm picky when I do my knots, so I take my time to tug and tighten where needed. There have been times when I redo it lol. I'm not really sure how else I can explain it without posting a video.

I tried the double knot once before and it did NOT work out for me lol but I might try it again because I would think that it would be more secure than the U knot.

Are you sure that you have the No-Roll elastic? I mean, it will fold up if the tulle gets pulled tightly but not if you make snug. My first mistake with making a tulle was getting regular elastic and I was getting so mad because the slightest thing would make it fold.

Yes I just bought the no roll kind!! I had regular elastic at first so maybe that is why!! So I will have to give it another try for sure! I just don't know how urs is so fluffy lol. If you do just one strip at a time do you layer them on top of each other? Sorry if i'm asking so many questions lol. I just really love this tutu!!

I just push them close together on the elastic.

this is how I calculate it...

20" waist x 5 strips/inch = 100 strips (then I go on to calculate how many yards I'll use)

I cut my elastic about 17 -18" because as you add the tulle it will stretch the elastic a bit (but don't worry, there is still so much room to grow!)

Here is a pic of a regular 2-layered tutu. Again, I just went long strip, short strip, long strip, short strip etc.
