This is the way I used to make them when I had trouble doing them freehanded. (I called this method my training wheels for bowmaking) If you notice I made creased where each loop and tails would come together. This helped guide me. Hope it will help all of you who are having difficulties mastering the TBB.

Agree.. angle should be more across rather than diagonal. And make sure the creases are nice and snug.
When using wider ribbon you can also create another little 'hill' in the center. So with thinner width ribbon you have it creased twice for two 'hills' but with the wider you would have three and it would point toward the back.
This will make them super full and easy to tug and work however you like them.
