I use lots of covered buttons for my bows and streamers but never made a ponyo. I just checked mines and #36 and #60 wich is the biggest size I have have the same size eyed back. let me see if i can find a thread I saw with ponyos inst on it.

By the way I host cover button Gb regularly and there are great prices...next one will be at the end of month if you are interested...search cover button Gb here so you can have an idea on prices if you want to try other sizes

I like using the #60 buttons for covered button pony-o's with the thinner elastic pony-o.

I have removed the shank and used wire to attach pony o to back. Kind of hard to explain, but if you google making covered button ponies, you should find it. Thats where I got the idea.
I'll try to explain, but if you don't u nderstand just try googling, like I said.
Remove shank, cut small piece of wire and slip through one hole, slide pony o through wire, with the pony being on the bottom side. Now slip other side of wire through the back. Pull both pieces of wire tight and twist. Cut off excess and attach back to button as normal. I don't know how clear that is, I'm not the best with describing something in words.
