Question Twisted Centers ? About Being So Bulky

I have a question about the centers of the twisted boutique bows. It seems mine are pretty thick where I pull the thread before I wrap it around. I would love to make the 2 layered ribbon ones like Angie Coleman and Pat Font just to name a couple, but there is no way I can pull my thread up then. I am using the super heavy thread and its not breaking but I just cant get it to gather like it should.

What does everyone use at this step? Should I be using wire or the ribbon that comes with the gator bite? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks, Linda

mine are pretty bulky. I sew my bows so all i do is wrap the thread around twice and then i pull really hard it makes the middle a little less bulky it compacts it pretty good. are you trying to layer them with spikes and the bottom bow?? Those bow do get bulky no matter what you do its a lot of layers.

Yes I do layer some of them and they are really bulky then but I am talking about before I even get to that step. I pull my thread really tight and then wrap it twice. It isnt real bad with single layer ribbon but like I said I would like to be able to do the dbl layer. Looking at the pics of the other girls bows on here, theirs dont look bulky at all. How do they do it???

Okay I want to know too! My bows get bulky in the center often too and not just on this one style. I try to mush it down but it doesn't budge much and then I don't want to mess up the rest of the bow. If anyone has tips, I'm all ears! PS - glad its not just me!!

When I first started making layered bows, they all looked bulky in the middle, but that "improved" when my bows started looking perkier! I know it sounds weird, because the middles never really got less bulky! But making sure my folds were correct, and the bows were properly shaped, made it so that you really no longer notice how much ribbon there is in the center, because the loops are so much taller than the center of the bow.

I hope that makes sense????

Well my loops could definitely be perkier. I will work on that. But would still like to hear from someone who ties the double layered ones nice and flat.

Thanks, Linda

What kind of needle are you using? I use those thick longer ones.
