Default What do I put behind fabric to make it thicker or sturdier?

Okay, so I am making some fabric cut outs for flowers and I need to add something to them to make them thicker or sturdier, if that makes sense. Is it a fusible something or stabilizer? I just thought I'd ask here since you ladies are so knowledgeable. I suppose I could ask someone at Joann's but the ladies at ours are so not helpful. Thank you! Oh I want to make clips or pins out of the fabric to pin to clothes. Just so you know what I plan to do with them.

What you want is called "interfacing" and you can get it at Joanns.

Okay, I've heard of that. I may even have some lying around somewhere. Thank you!

Other than the interfacing..Could u use a mix of stay flo starch and water also? I've often wondered this myself...maybe spray it after the flower is formed and put together. Just a thought..not sure of the pros and cons on it.

I have bought from a few ppl that cut out felt the same design and jsut attach it to the back..........that may be interfacing???? idunno. But, the felt works pretty good on the bows I bought.

Yep, fusible interfacing. You can get everything from superlight to stuff that looks like felt. If you find that it shows (don't want that) could you just starch the heck out of it? Or alternately there's something called buckram you could sandwich between two layers. It's harder to find, but super duper stiff.

I don't think spraying starch will be enough. Some of the fabrics I like are pretty thin cotton. I think interfacing might work b/c I am just layering fabric onto other fabric layers so I don't think I will have to worry about seeing it underneath. Thanks ladies.
