Default Tutu waist size...

I know the waist size of the girl is 27.5... What should I cut my elastic to?? Normally I just guess.. BUT since I know the waste should I make it 2" shorter?? HOW do you guys do it and why can I not figure this out today? Oh the girls are 6-7.. how long do you make your tutus that size?
I think I'm going crazy.. I put all my panties in DH drawer when doing laundry earlier.. I found towels in w/ the sheets... and I wondered what happened to all our towels..

Someone help these have to be done by tomorrow and I havn't even started!! Pray I have enough tulle!!

I have to stray from the majority~

I do not take away, but I do not tie my tutu's either, so maybe if you sew it makes a difference? If I know the measurement, I cut my elastic the exact length, maybe add 1/2" for where I sew it together at. But then it ends up being slightly stretched when they put it on because the tulle takes away an inch or so from the inside measurement. They are always snug, never loose.

For length I do 12" for the older girls, unless they specify something different.

Krista,

I don't mean to jack the thread here, but I have been looking for how to sew tutu instructions forever and haven't found any that I liked, or anyone who sews them. I would love to hear how you sew yours. Any chance you could send me a pm with a set of "In a nutshell" instructions?

I will just post here for all!

I cut my strips of tulle about 2.5"-3" longer than need be, so if I am making a 12 inch tutu, I cut them 26.5-27 inches. I layer 3pcs of tulle on top of each other and fold in half. I sew straight across the strip about 1" down from the top.

After I have sewn all the strips, I string all of them onto the elastic, then sew the elastic.

I suppose you could sew them all directly onto the elastic(I dont mean so that they are attached to the elastic, but around the elastic ), but it would get challenging toward the end when the tutu is getting full (this is how I actually tried in the beginning). I could not find a tut. I liked either, so I just took bits and pcs from different ones until I came up with something I liked.

I will edit this in a minute to add a picture, but they look just like the tied ones I think. I tried tying and could not get it to look the way I wanted

that was just a quick guide, if I missed something just let me know

depending on how much tulle you are using and I use a lot I subtract 5 inches from the waist size. If you are using a good quality elastic, if you use the stuff from Walmart take off a little more.

I actually take off 3 or 4 inches, I have found that since I do a double knot even though I leave it loose and wrap the waist it needs about that much stretch.

I'd love to see a sewn tutu pic also!
