Default Alligator or French Clip?

I want to make the layered bows to sell, but when I made a few for my daughter they came apart. The bow was fine but it detached from the alligator clip.

I lined the alligator clip. Wrap the 3/8" around. Attached the bow with hot glue gun, but the lining attached to the bow came loose from the clip along with the 3/8" ribbon knot. I like the alligator clip but can it hold up to such a thick bow.
Here is an example of the bow I'm trying to make. http://www.etsy.com/listing/61971047...rder=&includes[0]=tags&includes[1]=title&filter[0]=handmade

did you line your ali clip with hot glue originally? Some hot glue doesn't hold the ribbon to the clip, that could be the problem. I have no issued with ali clips on bows like that. GL

Yes, I lined the clip with hot glue and 3/8" ribbon. Glue the bow on, and wrap the center knot around, and open the clip to glue the ends.

The lining sometimes comes apart from the clip.

What brand hot glue are you using? I have read somewhere on this forum long long time ago... that some brands are kinda "useless". I think it also mentioned, use the clear glue sticks... not the cloudy colored kind.

Also read somewhere that some people lightly sand their clips before they line it.

Hope this helps...

I do all my layered bows on alligator clips. You might want to see if it is the glue sticks you are using.

I take floss and after I glue my bow to the clip I also tie it....then I put on my center knot....

Thanks for posting this question. I'm not at this point myself but I'd been wondering about whether the weight of the bow will pull the liner off the clip.

I'll have to keep the tip about "clear(er)" glue sticks being better and also the tip about tying the ribbon on before applying the center knot.

When I line a double prong, i not only glue to the clip but I make sure there is a line of glue inbetween the prongs so the ribbon adheres to itself kind of sandwiching the clip in the middle. Does this make sense?

Then I attach the bow then do the knot and wrap the edges around and glue those to the clip as you descriped.
