I LOVE it. How'd you get it on the stick/dowel?

I'm wondering (without having tried it yet) if it would be possible to put the dowel in the center of the pom form (with some great glue) and as you tightened the whole thing up, the dowel would already be in there. This might not make a tight enough pom-pom, though.

Will you give us a step by step? I'm trying to envision in my head how you put lots of the poms together (you mentioned that whimsy wendy might do several and put them together).

SOOOOOOO cute (the darling child AND the tulle puff!).

Thanks for being so smart and figuring this out!

Do as you would a pompom as per the link above. It is just one pompom - I first wrapped with red - then blue - then red - when you tie together the last reds come together and start making the stripe. You dont need to do pompoms and put together like i thought - you can just do blocks of color when wrapping the circle.

The dowel - it is just stuck up there for picture purposes but...I figure when I am wrapping the thread I will stick the dowel in the center then glue around and tie reall tight really fast.

Lorraine
VERY excited to make one of these to test it out. Thanks for telling me about the layering vs the multiple poms. I wouldn't have thought of that--I probably would have wrapped in stripes rather than the layering and been so disappointed.

Where do you like to get your colored tulle? I've got a M's craft store and a JA's. I think M's has more bridal stuff. I'm thinking those rolls of it that are about 6-8" wide. Or is it best just to go to a fabric store?

Do you get pre-cut dowels? Hardware store or craft store?

I buy my dowels at the craft store or hardware store - they are quite long so you may want to cut them for this purpose - sane the edge to make smooth so it doesnt catch.
I am off to make some other size pom poms!

Lorraine
Looking forward to seeing them as you go!

Thank you for the resources. I'm very impatient so I'm hoping my local stores have something to get me started (I may be resigned to the white until I can put in an order!)

Yea!

Maybe tiny ones would be cute on cheerleader's shoes. Or they could be used at Pep Rallies. If football players (or whatever sport) are assigned a cheerleader then they could be "tapped" at the Pep Rally by their cheerleader at the beginning of the season.

Lorraine-
YOU ROCK!!!!!!! I've been thinking the same thing about the make your own pom - even pulled up the same tutorial - just didn't have any tulle. Anyway, can you take a pic of the pom after you wrap but before you cut? Also, how much tulle did you use and what size were your circles/donuts? I'm more of a visula learner if you can't tell. You just saved me a bunch of time playing this weekend - I can get right to making them! Thanks so much!
