I have to agree with you, the coach is seriously wrong about longer tails; the shorter ones are much cuter, but you still did a fantastic job of making the long ones look good. They all look great!

Those are hands down the best cheer bows I've ever seen. You should be really proud of yourself.

Ive looked all over too for a brief pattern because I cant find any that fit me right. If they fit in one place they dont in another.
Sorry it took so long for me to reply!!!
Yes, it's a swim suit pattern, a tankini to be exact.
If you try one, be prepared, some are more boy-short-ish than others. Meaning, one pattern I have is just squares sewn together to make the brief. Another I have has "bootie" curves, and is less square-ish in the back. I liked that one better, as most (but not all!!) of the 12-13 y/o girls I made them for are still in that "shaped like a skinny twig" phase and have no bootie! The square-ish briefs actually bagged a little in the back, looked worse than a pair of high-waisted 80's jeans on those poor girls!!
So, it's a matter of age (read: hip development) as well as preference of coverage.
Best of luck!
PS the best patterns I found, that also last the longest, are Quik-sew, I think you can find them at Hancock Fabrics, but I just bought them online.

Shelleigh

Is this the pattern you used?

ETA: Do the sizes run pretty true to size?

No, I used pattern # 2689 AND # 2700. But that pattern looks pretty much the same.
The patterns run a little small, but what I did since I needed so many was to purchase one of each, then I used butcher paper, (just ask your local butcher, I think I paid a couple of dollars for 30 feet) and traced all of the sizes. When I completed the breifs and tried them on my daughter is when I realized that they fit a little small. But since I had traced the size run, it wasn't like I had to purchase another pattern. They ran about a size too small, but those were young girls...

Here's the JMD bows for nationals, very similar to a bow i posted earlier, but made them 3" instead of 2.25", and they wore zebra spankies as well. They originally had french clips, but changed to ponys for Nationals, hence their return to me. They have 7/8" zebra ribbon to tie in their hair and zebra soffe shorts to wear at practice while at Disney, too. I thought the zebra theme was a little overdone but they look pretty good.
Get your cheer on!
