Well the first one says it's all hand painted. Because I was going to say that you could probably cut letters in vinyl on a cricut. Then my guess would be they do use some kind of stencil. I don't think anyone can be that steady lol.

The second one. maybe she used scrapbook paper for the back ground. cutthem out and sealed them on. Then painted the words. You don't have to have such a steady hand because it's supposed to look like that.

On the second one, that is paper. If you look closely, you can see where it rolls away from the wood on the edges. The black letters and flower outline seem to be hand-painted because there is a difference in shading. (just guessing, don't know for sure on the painting part).

i wonder if they could also use 1 layer of a printed paper napkin decopage(sp!) . . . that would also give the see thru/handpainted look . . .

lol - i always look for the easiest way out!

Might be satin house paint. Extremely durable.

You could certainly make the first one that way. Painted wood, printed paper, mod podge, vinyl lettering, some sort of sealer.. you're done. Her work is lovely though and she is quite talented.

I have used the cricut to cut the vinyl and attach it to a smaller holder and it worked pretty good. I think I still sealed it off with mod podge so it didn't peel off!

I may just need to try to make one more elaborate now!

I would use a stencil to make sure that the letters are uniform and then I would paint them on wood and I would probably laquer them as well, but that part is optional. You can use wax paper to help with stenciling, I believe.

I would also probably use a staple gun to attach the ribbon. I made a holder last night and just used high-temp hot glue and it just seemed a little heavy when I put the bows on. The glue might be enough but I'm going to use a staple gun just to be sure.

There are some cool pre-made wooden plaques that already have metal hanging attachments that you can get at Walmart. Michael's has all kinds of fun wooden things you can use, both pre-painted and unpainted.
