I haven't made one YET (my list is getting longer lol) but I will try to explain MY understanding of how it's done.

After you have gathered the fabric/ribbon...remember the stitching is done down the centre...you fold at the centre, this will bring BOTH edges together to the outside and you will have the FOLD on the inside. Make sense so far?

As you do this, form a circle and stitch to your cut out circle. Then add your centre embellishment.

HTH

Try this one, the first method ... see how it's kinda' pinched, rather than folded? I think THAT'S the key! I believe this (with a few modifications) is the one I used to make a denim one for my dd (which we have both LOVED, BTW.) Just adjust for your desired look; weight of fabric, size of circles, etc. HTH!!! mk

Bare with me I'm not the best at explaining....after you have sewed it all accordion like fan it out like you would a paper fan and lay it on your little circle. I used felt because when you sew it it bunches it up a little and makes it stick up a bit. Hold everything down in the middle and put a bunch of stitches in the middle. Does anyone know what kind of material she uses? I don't like mine. I want it to fray like that. If you still don't understand I can try and take pics when I make another one for my SILs. I really want that material though.

I hear ya! I only have time when my kids are taking a nap. Which rarely happens with my DD. I can get her to go downstairs with me and "play". Which really means getting into all my stuff. Whenever my DS is awake I'd rather be with him and watch him smile and laugh! I need to be more motivated. It also helps that I'm not doing shows right now and all the sales I get are from family. So everything is just for fun.

This is the one I just made, what do you think?? Instead of leaving the edges square, I just rounded them before I turned the fabric to make the flower.

just went to her website . . . and found another flower that's similar but uses waaay more fabric . . . it looks to me like it's one piece of fabric w/large gathering stitches . . . and it's folded in lieu of gathered.

check this one out to see what i mean. the grey one is just a different/softer fabric . . .

edit . . . just found one she made out of a stiffer/like cotton fabric. . . you can realy see the big folds from the large gathering . . . http://www.etsy.com/listing/61686553...adband-m2m-the

Aren't those beautiful? i bought tons of the same material. got a long strip, sewed an inch and a half then pulled and tried to put it together, and no way. I don't know, it doesn't look too hard but when you try its complicated, my mom tried time after time and still no success. lets keep trying ladies.

What material did you use? I'm thinking that rounded one looks more like it than mine. I also tried gluing a ton of it down on my second one. It looks better.
