Unhappy How do you waterproof bottle caps using Epoxy Stickers?

I'm new to the bottle cap thing and I've been searching for a couple days now on how to do this.... there's a TON of forums, lol. I am using the epoxy stickers for my bottle caps but my daughter came home from school the other day and she just had to put it in her mouth (she's 6) the image was all YUCK! I don't know what to do and I was about to put them on the market. <~ This is me banging my head up against a wall. I'm so disappointed right now because at first I felt that I was on top of the world because I found out how to create the images on photoshop. I bought Mod Podge and E 6000 to try and painted it over the images but I can see strokes... maybe not adding enough??? I use flattened bottle caps and was told I shouldn't use the resin on them because it looks messy if you pour the resin all over and let them drip dry. Also, I have no idea what's the best resin to use and where to get it.
Someone please {yes I'm begging} help me on this.... I suck... Can I say that on here???

I'm sorry you're having a hard time with them. They are a pain for sure. Try using the search function on here and just type in bottlecap, you should get enough reading for days.

I tried using liquid resin and gave up, it was a pain, so I use some PU drops I bought from a member here, they're wonderful!

I could never get my bottle caps to dry completely, after letting them sit for a day, and then baking them a little bit, weeks later they are still sticky on top. I'm just going to glue some magents on the back and use them here at home.

I find that epoxy dots are rather expensive and you don't get as good of results.

I personally think et lite really is the best way to go, you can find it at michaels and I got the 32 ox kit for $18 with a 40% off coupon. If you have a digital scale (I have one from the MANY times I have tried dieting lol) I would recommended measuring it from there for about 50 bottle caps do about 20 ounces resin and add 20 ounces hardener. If your unsure of the amount add just a tad bit more hardener and it won't be sticky.

I think there's a decimal point missing - you wouldn't need 20 ounces each for 50 caps

I agree et lite is the way to go.. yes its a pita sometimes ...
I bought the cups & sticks from the hg store and I usally mix 15 ml & 15ml & i can cover about 50 caps sometimes more depending on how thin or thick I put my et lite on.

Thank you all very much for the input. I bought ET Lite last night (smaller size with coupon just want to try it out before too much commitment) and I can't wait to try it out. Any suggestions for this? I would greatly appreciate. I saw baking??? wouldn't that ruin the image or bubble the resin?

Sincerley,

I wouldn't bake them, I tried that once as someone recommended and it cooked the caps in like 5 minutes and melted the resin all down the sides and I had a mess of about 50 bottle caps, all in one sheet. And it ruined the edges of the images.

Be sure to use a lighter (I use a bbq lighter, target has a bunch in the dollar section and they are now 50% off!) and run it over the resin about 5 minutes after you apply the resin to get the bubbles out.

Oh my goodness. I'm such a dummy. I didn't get back on here before I did the mixture and made the bottle caps so I didn't see about using a lighter to pop the bubbles. I kept popping bubbles All night!!!! and when I thought they were all gone I went to bed. Woke up this morning, there were some little bubbles on the sides. Luckily, I made a small batch so I will try again.... Never thought there was this much into making them, wow.

Lightbulb Re: How do you waterproof bottle caps using Epoxy Stickers?

Ok, I had to post this just because I was going through the same thing. I thought about using Epoxy but it's such a mess to mix. I bought the bottle cap inserts that wouldn't stay in. Hobby Lobby sells a clear filler for jewelry but it's somewhere around $15 for an 8 oz bottle. So...here's what I figured out:

Find a candle warmer or hot plate type deal. Something that doesn't go past a certain temp. Use your own bottle caps instead of buying them (much cheaper and more unique) Place the caps, top down on the warmer and let them sit for about a minute. Then take tweezers and peel out the rubber seal. Caps will be hot!! Clean them out with rubbing alcohol or wash them well. Place them back on the plate. Cut up little sections of 'Crystal Clear' glue sticks and place them in the caps. That's it! Watch them though, too long and they get cloudy. I've been drilling holes and making them into key chains. Lone Star beer has old word puzzles on the inside of the caps that looks pretty cool. Good Luck!
