Default Tutu - do you add an inch or take away

When your making a tutu, do you measure the waist and take away an inch for the length of elastic, or do you measure and add an inch.

I think I've been taking away but just checked some instructions I had years ago and it says to measure and then add an inch.

I'm trying to standadize my tutu waist sizes so just want to get this right on all orders.

thanks for your help
Kerry

I take away 3 inches because as you tie on the tulle it stretches and the more tulle you put the more the elastic actually stretches!! HTH

I take away. Well, actually I cut the exact length, then overlap the elastic one inch and sew together. If you add an inch, the tutu won't stay on the little girls' waist.... especially the girls without any hips. LOL~!

Hope this helps.

For my last tutu that I made, I subtracted 1 1/2 inches and it was fine. But I would love to know others thoughts!

I take away. You want the waist to be smaller than the waist so it stays on. On the length you want to measure how long you want it to be and add an inch for the knot

I take away 3 inches in the waist. For length I add 2 to 3 inches as I prefer mine to be a bit longer.

Thankyou ladies very helpful.

I thought I normally measure, then take away an inch, then overlap an inch, so in essence its two inches smaller but just couldn't remember despite doing this regularly.

My mind went blank (I think I'm getting old!LOL)

anyway thanks off to make up all my orders..
