Question More than one type of grosgrain?

Hi,

I am fairly new to ordering ribbon online so I am confused which to get. I have seen ''offray solid'' grosgrain ribbon and just ''solid''. Whats the difference?. I am mainly interested in making korker, boutique type bows. Would love to make the funky loopy type with all diff sizes of ribbon, but I am nowhere near capable of that yet

Thanks for all your suggestions and advice.

I have mostly ordered from RABOM and they have Shiff and Offray ribbon. I didn't know until I came to this site that there were names for the ribbon they carried. I tried the ribbon from Hairbow Center. I did not like the texture of that ribbon and didn't think my korkers came out as nice and tight as they did with the other ribbon. It has a slippery feel to it also and was a little more difficult to handle while I was trying to hold creases when making my bows. It is not Shiff or Offray. Maybe it has a different name.

I think you're refering to RABOM, since they list theirs as "solid" and "offray" I just always order their "Solid" ribbon and I love it!!! It has body but isn't super stiff!

Brand of grosgrain = different types of grosgrain.

Offray and Schiff are stiffer, more expensive. This is really good to make the twisted boutique bows with. There are several sites that carry this brand. RABOM has schiff, offray and their own brand where they print their own ribbon.

YAMA - silkier feeling, kind of shiny - Haven't had a lot of person experience with it. The little i have I've used doing ribbon sculptures. I know there are a lot of buys for YAMA and I believe you can find it on Ebay.

UB - Softer, thinner but with good starch makes a good korker and it's cheap which is a plus making korkers when you're using 4-5 yards.

For prints check out the ribbon supplier sticky thread - there are so many sites selling unique prints from hipgirl, allaboutribbon, rockinribbons, etc.

That was my thought, too. I believe the "solid grosgrain" on RABOM is Schiff, since the colors and feel of it matches up with my chart/Schiff bought from other sources.

I, personally, prefer either Schiff or Offray.
