Default Tutus

Okay, I made my first tutu and I have a few questions.

I measured my daughter's waist cut that much elastic then overlapped it an inch to sew it up, but after tying on all the tulle and wrapping the waist in satin, it is too big. Now I didn't try the elastic band on her before I put on the tulle, but I'm assuming it was fine, since I measured. I'm thinking putting on the tulle and the satin streched the band, but I'm not sure how? I was carefull not to tie the tulle to tight. How can I fix this? Should I deduct an inch from the waist measurement and overlap an inch? I'd appreciate any help on this problem. Thanks!

I had that same problem when I first started making tutus. So now I usually take off 2 inches from the waist size. I haven't had any problems since.

I like making my tutus open ended. I make the tutu on the elastic then wrap with satin and hand sew the end of the elastic to the satin so it can be tied. I will try to take a picture. My idea being that my daughter will be able to wear it for a long long time. Heck my almost 3 year old son can wear it!

I've done 2. First was wrapped and tacked the elastic onto the satin on the inside edge. It was not as stretchy. The one i have for my daughter is kind of a mess I tried to flatten it back out, my little boy got a hold of it and it's a bit wadded up. I just took a picture of the edge. I didn't wrap hers, and it's still very stretchy. I also just took a picture of my boy modeling it so you can see. And last my little girl wearing it.

The instructions I have say to measure the waist and subtract 5 inches. It's worked for me.
