I don't really know how long I just eyeballed it (probably not the best method lol) but yeah I'd think 3 1/2 to 4 inches maybe a little less but not more. But it really depends on the size of bow that's on the bottom mine was a 4" twisted bow that i turned upside down HTH!!

Oh, I bought one of her bows b/c I am a perfectionist and I needed to "see it" in person to see how it was done. I did not take it apart so my daughter could wear it, LOL. The marabou is glued on vertically. I thought it was a strip glued on horizontally which is how I usually do mine but she did hers vertically. Not sure if that helps anyone. And the spikes are not tied off. Probably sewn but they lay flat if that makes sense.The spikes are on the bottom and are glued onto the alli clip.

I also glued mine vertically and then glued the loops in around and sort of on it lol no method really just kept going until I thought it looked good
