Question Embroidery Question

Hi all! Like so many of you, I've been reading these forums for a while and have finally decided to come out of the darkness to venture into this thing you call socialization . Anyway, I was wondering, when you do your embroidery, do you:
1. Use a high end machine with downloadable fonts;
2. Use a normal sewing machine and just draw the letters out;
3. Hand embroider the letters;
4. Use iron-ons

I think the bottle caps are SO cute, but I'm scared of making them or having someone get cut on I figured the next best thing would be the embroidered buttons. However, I'm not sure where to begin with them since I currently have just a cheap-o sewing machine. Ok, rambling now! Any thoughts or advice would be awesome! <3
