Default Gathered ribbon flowers

I was playing around making these last night with some scrap ribbon.

Like these: http://marthashmartha.blogspot.com/2...-headband.html

I have been using just general purpose thread but I have a problem with it slipping. The knotted end keeps slipping through and then the flower comes undone. Any ideas to keep this from happening? Or am I just pulling it too tight?

I would just make a bigger knot. I use dental floss to sew them - it's very strong & won't break.

I don't have any advice, but just wanted to say those are really cute! Can I ask you- what width ribbon do you think you should use?

I agree that a larger knot is probably going to work. I personally use beading thread that is super strong, but you can buy upholstery thread and it is really strong too. You definitely want to pull very tight though, if you want it compact.
As for ribbon length, I personally use 8 times the width of the ribbon, and that seems to make a nice flower. Here's a quick chart
Width-length of ribbon for flower
5/8in -5 in
7/8in-7 inches
1 in-8 inches
1.5 in-12 inches

I use quilting thread and it works very well. Just knot the end bigger.

I sew mine with my ruffler foot on my sewing machine. I just started making them last week but I can already crank them out pretty fast that way.

Heavy duty thread from JoAnn's is awesome! I use that for my korkers too!

I also ruffle mine on my machine. I just turn to the longest stitch length and turn the tension all the way up. I do a backstitch at the beginning and then I don't do a backstitch at the end so I can adjust the ruffle, then tie it off by hand.

I use heavy duty or upholstery (sp) thread on all of my bows.
