Great ideas. I especially like the mat with frame glass on top. I may have to try that. I would also like to know which woodburners you guys use or would recommend. I am still using the lighter method, but would love to try out the wood burner.

Also, another silly question. When you cut the "V" on ribbon do the two sides not stick together ? Just curious!

Some place some one on here had posted a picture of their home made glas cutting mat with the sewing tape measure glued on the back side. does anyone know where that post would be, I've tried the search function and it brought me here. I did pick up some great tips from the this thread. I recently bought a 12 x 12 cutting mat that spins so you don't have to move your fabric squares when cutting for quilt making. I bought it to do duct tape crafts on but wondered how i would clean the mat so i could also use it for fabric and ribbons, the glass makes perfect sense. Now to find one that is 12 x 12. this mat also have 30, 45 and 60 degree angles marked on it, so triangles and "V" cuts can be done perfectly, again without moving the ribbon. It's a Fiskars Rotating Self healing Cutting Mat for a rotary cutter, you would have to cover it in glass for the wood burner. I got it at Walmart for $25

This is one idea for one made out of a picture frame. The instructions are on The Ribbon Retreat site.

http://www.theribbonretreat.com/blog...ing-board.html

I bought a glass matt at a scrapbook site that is about 12X12 and has grid marks already in it. I bought the Walnut Hallow burner at Michael's with a 50% coupon. The tip I use is the fine point tip that looks like a sharpened pencil. The last thing I bought was the metal cutting template from NBNG. Now finishing ribbon is a snap.

that is the one I had seen. Thanks so much for the link. I would love to know where you picked up that 12 x 12 glass mat. I have a wood burner but no clue what brand, I've had it for years as I used to do wood burning.

Here is a link to all my goodies:

Glass cutting mat. Overstock has them also. If you google "glass scrapbook cutting mat" they are everywhere.

http://store.scrapbook.com/ek-ekgmat13.html

The Cutting Edge metal template. For me this has been a great investment.

Lastly, you may need these if you just use the fine tip and drop the woodburner off the table before learning of the tape trick. I had to run out and buy a second woodburner just for the tip as I had an order due.

Thank you for he links. I never thought you would use the pointed tip for the burner, i have a tip that is like a knife, thought that would be the tip to use. I've never dropped my burner but of course when burning on wood there is no reason to lay it down, LOL. the a lot of different tips you can buy, probably at Walnut Hollow ( On line) I will be buying that mat, and maybe even that template. Thanks again for sharing!
