Default Oooo that smell!

So my korkers are a bit smelly at times, long after they've dried. I mean, I spray them, put them in the oven, and then spray them again, and let them sit out for a few hours.

They're fully dry, but they smell a bit. Maybe I need to lower the temp in the oven? It's a musty baked smell, I guess you could say.

My oven is at 320, I know most here do like 225-275. So I will try that. But has anyone else had this issue? I am using scented starch even when I make them.

I cook them at 260 and leave them for 20 min. I spray them just before cooking them, I don`t spray them after. They hold great that way and don`t smell, to spray them again would be useless for me. Maybe your second spray is whats causing them to smell??

Hmmm...I'm not sure about the ribbon, but I have noticed that tulle takes on smells very easily...If I have a bow holder that's been in my office for awhile it does take on a slight scent. I bought a yummy smelling body spray and spritzed the tulle and that made a world of difference. Instead of the "musty" smell, they now have a "candy" smell...and my customers love it! XOXO Amy

I think the solution might be to lower your oven temp, you want the ribbon to hold the curled shape, not burn
Another thing to try is the self cleaning option of your oven, there might be some crumbs or something inside that is burning and that's was causing the ribbon to smell.

I will get some scented spray, great idea!

I just turned the oven down to 260, so I hope that helps, and I will clean the oven, not much to clean, but you never know. I know the cookie sheets have a few stains on it from putting the dowels on it, I'm sure it's starch that fell. Can't get the stains out but I think I will leave them in the oven to get real hot, and then take them out with oven mitts and clean them hot. Maybe that will help get the stains off.

Thanks much gals! Hopefully I won't need more things to try lol.
