Default Clay so hard you can't work with it?

I bought some of the cheap-o clay at Michaels (I also have some of the Sculpey brand) It is hard as a brick so I bought some clay softener to make it easier to work with...forget it! I can't budge it at all. It said to use sparingly and I have used quite a bit already and it just won't do anything.

Should I keep adding softener to it or just pitch it and know better next time?

I've gotten bad batches of polymer clay before that I could do NOTHING with...ends up being a total loss...but if you are really upset about it I bet you could contact manufacterer and possibly get a replacement or something.
