Default bows losing their kork?

I bought some ribbon last year off ebay from China. It was described as metallic grosgrrain but I'm not sure that's how I woud describe it.

Finally got around to korking it and after a few days, it seems like the kork is falling out of it? It's starting to look like apcakege bow, not a fabric bow. I've korked the metallic galena from Micahels before and it keeps.

Anyone experienced anything like this?

Do you use a stiffener on it?

I don't remember. I guess it goes to show, use metallics sparingly (not the whole thing) or make sure you use a stiffener!

I use the Aleene's stuff but it's $6 a bottle so hair spray would probably be a lot cheaper but I haven't tried it yet. Does the hairspray leave any spots on the ribbon?

I put my ribbon on the dowels and spray it all over and then throw it in the oven. I don't wet it other than with the spray.
