Default Hairband and bobby pin ideas?

I have given in to the fact that my daughter refuses to wear hair bows. She always reaches for the hairbands and hates having girly girl bows in her hair. She is a tomboy with gorgeous red curly hair and I would love to pin it back with something a little more rugged and mature looking. She loves natural colors and anything grown up looking (did I mention that she is 5!). Browns and natural colors look awesome on her so I would like to make some bobby pins and metal headbands for her. I have some metal headbands, plastic headbands, and bobby pins coming to me. I would love to make some bobby pins for myself that are not so girly girl as well.

So, besides singed flowers (I already have some ideas for those) what can I make? I need things not too girly, not too big, and more organic in feeling. Any ideas?

Thank you guys for your help! This forum has been a wealth of information for me!

i was thinking about this, you can glue a small butterfly charm or a mini flower with a diamond center -things like that are small but not overly girly -kwim? I have one i wear in my hair all the time on a simple clip its a cute mini blue butterfly, i also have a small cabbage rose i use for dressing up-summer dresses ect- you can also try feathers, puffs, funky animal print ribbon with a feather tucked in and a small gem in the center-it can be tons of fun to try different styles!

I would go to etsy and look up some resin flatbacks and scroll through to see if you find anything that looks a little more organic. Remember there are always sellers on there who will customize your stuff! YOu could go with some vintage looking cameos, old celluloid buttons in a nice shape. I LOVE the metal beads for this. You can sometimes find metal flower shapes that can be sewn, but I glue them to mine. Adults purchase these more often than kids! Roses, daisies (or something similar but not too girly) and , uh, just shapes show up sometimes amidst the jewelry section. Connectors or beads. Yum

These below are pretty dang girly, but just to show you these are metal beads. You could go for something flat also!
rhinestonejewelry sells them with some designs that are pretty basic. but they are sparkly. you could go for something like that, just sparkle free if you don't need to glam it up.
