Default Need some advice? What do you recommend for a beginner?

Hello. Hoping to get your opinions.

My sis lives in Maryland and wants to learn how to make bows. Problem is..I live in TX so we dont see each other that often to teach her.

So for her birthday (coming up next month), I wanted to buy her some templates. But need your advice.

She has never made a bow in her life and will doing it for the first time. I would like to know, in your opinion, if templates are easy to work with and would someone who has NEVER made a bow, touched a piece of ribbon, etc, etc be able to use this and successfully learn how to make bows OR would you recommend I teach her "by hand" first?

Also is there a particular "template package" you would recommend if you feel she can learn on her with templates.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I'd say Karyn's templates... http://littlepinkladybug.com/catalog.php?category=130 You can decide to go with the basic or the twisted boutique or maybe even both If my sister were to give me an option, I'd ask for both..lol..j/k.. =)

You're a wonderful sister

I think the template package from no bow no go is the best I have tried. Her directions are very very detailed and little tricks for some more difficult bows I struggled with in the past. My bows have never looked better.

I have not tried the BBM but I LOVE my templates from No Bow No Go (NBNG). The book that comes with them is awesome. I would recommend the set that comes with 4 templates and the book.

@ Cynthia...Get both? haha. Sounds just like something my sis would say.

Seems like both NBNG and BBM are great templates. What do you like best about each respectively cause I am definitely not going to by both template sets for her.

I also sell a set that you dont need templates for, many ppl have said they tried templates and then mine and did them well without. A lifetime instruction package that includes all I have already made (all types of bows) and all I ever will make is $30

I hv NBNG, the basic BBM, TW and among others.. For beginners, I like Karyn's concept: templates already there, placement (no guessing, eyeballing...I hate eyeballing stuff... etc etc). If I were a starter, I'd go with hers. If hers existed 4 yrs ago when I first started, I wouldn't hesitate buying both..

Granted, I don't hv Karyn's twisted boutique templates as I already know how to make that. I only suck in the basic bows dept..lol...sorta..

NBNG is very good and detailed too (can't deny that)..

I have Tabby Wabby. I have nothing to compare them too. The thing I don't like is the instructions are on the yahoo group.

As a beginner I would think that very detailed easy to follow would be great!

@ Cynthia. Stop confusing me! LOL My sis is more of a visual person and likes simplicity so my initial thought was Karyn's templates because there is a video or 2 on her website that I just watched and they seem pretty simpley but on the NGNB website there's a book. This might sound crazy but are there detailed pictures in the NGNB book?

Ughhhh this is getting complicated.

@ Threeblessing...do you think its easier to learn "Free hand" or with the templates. Just trying to get her something she will use and not waste my money.
