Default alligator clips or french?

when do you use french clips over alligator clips? i have been making some bigger bows--but dont know if i should do alligator or french clips. i was thinking anything over 4.5" should go on a french clip--but want to hear others opinions. thanks!

I usually offer a choice on my bigger bows. I've only ever had one person request an alligator clip on a bow that was over 4 inches. I did that one on a double clip then since it was a BIG bow, it just seemed sturdier.

If you are doing it for craft shows I would mount 4 inch and above on a French clip. I remind people that even these can be clipped on an interchangeable headband too.

I use alligator clips 90% of the time. If I am making it for some one, I would offer a choice for the larger bows. I just started making beaded barrettes, so those are French. But they fit in MY hair, so I don't think they would fit my DD.

I use alligator clips pretty much all the time. I do offer the french clips on my bigger bows, I know they have a small french clip that is 40 mm and a large that I think is 80 mm. I only have one regular customer that gets the small french clips. All the rest order alligator on everthing. Hope that helps!

I think it's a customer preference. Locally (small town/rural area) No one really wants the alligator clips on the bows and korkers. They want the pony-os or the french clips, they seem to really like the 40mm. I love the alligator clips personally because they slide right in front of the pigtail or ponytail of my dd.
I do the larger bows on the larger french clip majority of the time.

I use both and go by what the customer wants.

I just ordered (not to long ago) some of the little french clips- and LOVE them! I think for my craft shows I will make them 50/50 french clip/alligator clip. Alot of people worry that a $4 bow will fall out and get lost somewhere.

I like putting bigger bows and loopy bows on french clips. All other bows would go on alligator clips. For some reason large bows don't look right to me on an alligator clip. It all depends on preference I guess.
