I finish all of my bows first before putting on clips. The only one I've ever had come off was one I put in my daughters right after oiling it. I use the same glue gun as Allison. Be careful though - it's HOT - my DH can attest to that after dripping hot glue on his bare leg while trying to cover a wipes case

The few bows I've made I sew, glue and then tie to the clip and they didn't come apart even after my autistic daughter was trying to tear it apart. She likes taking apart things and ripping things, clothes, paper and was quite happy she didn't take it apart. Ditto on the glue as a pp mentioned above.

I use hot glue also, and also recommend making sure it's very hot. There have been times when I've wanted to take a bow off a clip to redo something or to use it for something without a clip and have had the hardest time getting them apart with just hot glue. I also think as long as you have ribbon glued to ribbon (as opposed to ribbon against wire, or the clip itself, or anything else) it'll hold better too.
