Default Tutus

Those of you who make and sell tutus, are you doing the no sew technique or do you sew them? I'd like to try my hand at them but I don't know how to sew and don't own a sewing machine, I've pretty much go the no-sew technique down but I'm confused as to how you attach a bow. I want an elastic waist, but I also want a bow in front, all while doing the no-sew technique. Is that even possible? Also where do y'all buy your tulle?

Ooh, also do you recommend buying instructions? If so, from whom should I buy?

I tie mine around the elastic then wrap with ribbon. As far as a bow on the front-I glue mine with E6000. Leave it dry for 24hrs before you attempt to see if it stuck!!

Thanks so much! One more question, how are you attaching the ribbon once it's wrapped, do you spot glue it or sew it on? Thanks!

Well, I don't have a cat but I do have a very curious 18 month old! Something tells me I should work on tutus while she's sleeping.

I use the No-Sew technique. I have tried sewing the tutu's but I think the No-Sew tutu's actually turn out better. I have made the bow front tutu's two different ways...I have done them where they are wrapped around the waist and I have also done the bow where it is an attachment--much like a hairbow..this way they can remove it if they wish. You can just attach the bow between the tulle pieces on the front of the tutu.

Here is an example of a tutu I've made with the ribbon front attachment.

I usually buy my tulle from Nashville Wraps is a Gift Packaging and Gourmet Gift Basket Supplies Wholesale Resource

Nashville Wraps, that's where I bought mine as well. Also UB has tulle.

I use the no sew technique and usually make my bow from what I wrap the waist with. If you wanted a different bow you could mount it on some kind of clip and slide it through the wrapped part, or through one of the ties.

Here is a picture of Ms. Sydney in my last tutu.

I also use the no sew technique. I wrapped ribbon between the tulle at the waistband and made a bow from that - haven't tried attaching one yet.

Here is pic of DD before I did the ribbon at the waist.
