Arrow Flower petal headband question

Are you girls buying hydrangea bushes from Michael's/JA/AC Moore and plucking the petals off to make the flower headbands??

Back when I thought I was the only one with that idea (LMAO)(and before I found this forum) that is what I did, but they don't turn out nearly as beautiful as the ones I'm seeing on here ... can I ask how you girls do it and what you're using to do it with?

Tabitha

i am not sure which ones youre talking about but i do this also for headbands and infant hats. need to make sure you buy the soft hydrangeas- not the plasticy ones. take them apart and i put 2 flowers on top of each one another and stitch to headband and the last stitch i usually add a few seed beeds for color. the key is to group them close together so they look really full. when i do a band of them, they are only about 1/3" of an inch apart, maybe closer. when i do a bunch of them, i cut out a small (2"circle) of felt and then put 24 flowers on it in groups of 2.

Like these. Lil Lady Bows - I borrowed your pic b/c I am to lazy to search and search for another post. Anyway, I have made hairclips using Hydrangea petals but they never turn out as uniform as hers, so that is why I was wondering if everyone is buying the bushes or getting just the petals from GB's or wherever.

I have seen the middle and right at Michaels...maybe the middle is from Hobby Lobby, I can't remember.

The key seems to be layering and picking out the same petals on the bush for each layer.

HTH!!!

I have had some just like the ones in the photo on the right. Mine are from Joanns. These were nice and thick and work well when you just use them on clips. They were very popular.
