This happens in business all the time. Yes, this is a more personal business, but it's business none-the-less. There is nothing wrong with reverse engineering something and making your own similar product. As long as you make it, you can sell it, and there's nothing wrong with that.

Like many PPs have stated, I'd be inclined to put my own spin on it, but either way there's nothing wrong with it. There are many people selling similar products out there, that's how it works... Also, if it's really cool chances are this person isn't the first person to make it.

I don't think there is anything wrong with getting inspiration from others. I am very hands on, I like to take things apart to figure them out too. Like others said, make it your own. Have fun with it!

I'm in the "nothing wrong with it" camp! How do you know the Etsy seller didn't buy one from someone and take it apart? That may be how she learned to make it, kwim???? GO FOR IT!!!!

Since most of us live and sell in different places and we go to different craft shows, have different customers, etc. it would seem to me that it doesn't really matter if you see something that you like and try to recreate it because most likely you're selling to customers that others aren't selling to (unless it's on etsy or there are several bows vendors at a show).... everyone copies someone else... If not, then only one person in this world would be making a twisted bow... Plus, if you actually do come up with something unique, someone is going to copy you at some point and it's not original anymore..
