You can't use regular dye unless it's cotton covered. I do custom tie-dye using fiber reactive dyes, my kitchen looks like a chem lab when I am dyeing. If you go to Dharma Trading Co. they have alot of dyes. I think that pigment dye would work but since I haven't dyed elastic I can't say as an absolute. Not really sure if this was any help.

hmmm, there's no secret at all (I don't think) I dyed my white and just followed what the bottle said. I did it over the sink and used liquid rit dye.

Someone mentioned before that the elastic from walmart doesn't dye at all..maybe that's it??

I tried to dye white to black. I know that black is a hard color to dye. It turned this horrid color of grey. I'm thinking about doing it again and trying to dye it on top of the grey, but hate to waste another box. I am going to do it ultra concentrated on the stove.

I hope you find your answer. I would like to know how to dye nylon but go figure, no one really gives out their "secrets". I guess until I figure it out I will be buying them.
