Default A TOTTS Question

I just got my instructions and bow maker in the mail today, and I am SO frustrated! I have the SBB instructions, but thought I should learn to use a bow maker and try the TOTTS as well. Do I just need more practice, or I am going to like hand-folding my bows more because that is how I learned?

Also, do you have to sew the TOTT bows? I have always used wire, and I think the sewing is throwing me off.

I thought this would come easy to me since I've been making bows for awhile, but instead I feel like I am completely starting over.

I don't sew them. It's hard to break a habit!

My first instructions were SBB as well, and I just bought TOTT's a few weeks ago.

I at first used wired. Now looking at those bows I made in the beginning I no longer like them. I then decided to try the elastic thread that Michelle mentioned and I loved it!!! You can move the thread after tying it off if you feel it's off center.

After using the needle and thread with TOTT's I really like my centers better. They are a lot tighter than I was getting with the wire.

Don't give up!! I'm slowly making sure all of my folds are in a correct angle and I can make the bow perfect the first time instead of folding it over and over.

I first had Roni's and UBB... wires!.. Then SBB, then some others.. blah..

and thennnnn, Totts & Lambs... I, now, use sewing or tying->whichever is nearer and ready-to-use (needle threaded), next to me.

TOTTs helped me alot... =)

Don't give up just yet...

I have both sets of instructions and have used techniques from both to come up with my own method. I use wire, but finer than SSB suggests and that makes it less bulky in the end.

I've never figured out how to use the bow maker.....tried it a couple of times and found that I could do a much nicer job without it. Guess it's hard to teach an old dog new tricks.

SBB??? Here I thought I knew all the bow instruction acronyms.

We need a bow instruction acronym index for all the newbies ... and me.

Use the alligator clips and use clothes pins if you aren't being able to hold the ribbon. I use her folding by hand method for the twisted boutique but have really gotten good at the other folds and I've had totts for under a month. I recommend using the button thread, it's REALLY strong and I can pull it tight. I have never used wire but I always used the elastic or tried the sewing up the middle and my creases never looked right. Just practice. I kept the same ribbon and would just cut the knot off the thread and do it over again

Good luck!
