I don't measure, per se, but cut (with wood burner) on the 8th spiral of 1/8" ribbon on 1/4" dowel. (right on the dowel)

To all of you who sew your korkers, how do you get them to spread out nicely? I've got so much trouble sewing them, i'm tempted to just tie them up!!!

Those of you that put your bows in the oven, do you find they are stiff when you take them out, or do they have to cool before they are stiff? Then when they cool, is that when you starch them?

Ok I have a question for those of you that sew them, do you just put them half way on a needle and stack them and sew through the center? I tried that and my ribbon always wrapped around each other and they were not fluffy. Also can anyone tell me about using hairspray to stiffen them? You spray it on when youre all done? What kind of hair spray? Aerosol?

I would like to know the answer to this, too. The one I made the ribbon wrapped around each other also instead of being separated and fluffy. How do you keep this from happening?

When I first started making korkers, I followed these instructions.

Now, I do it somewhat differently, but the idea is still basically the same. I do not glue my ribbons together as I feel it makes them too thick in the center. I sew mine.

To keep them from wrapping around each other, you have to play with them to get them to separate and stand out by themselves. After you have them where you want them, spray them with fabric stiffener.
