Oooo, I used to make those when I was a kid out of plastic or leather. I did that whole diamondback weave that someone posted. Surely there are more instructions online.

I think we might be talking about two types of lanyards...

The way I learned was from a American Girl kit long, long ago and far, far away. I did them out of plastic lacing like this: Lanyard Keychains ... well, except longer although I did some keychains too come to think of it. Now I'm wondering what ever happened to that stuff, lol.

My hubby wears lanyard things at work sometimes and I think they're what Judy described. Those would be simpler and a lot quicker I think since they're just one piece of ribbon.

Crafters Vision - Crafting Supplies at Prices You Only Dream Of! has the metal hook with a swivel you put keys or a badge on. There is a loop at the top to put the ribbon through. Hope this helps.

By the way - their shipping seems really slow.

I'm the weird one here! They all go around the neck, but I saw the word 'lanyard' and immediately thought of the 2-decade-ago definition instead of the ribbon ones that are around today, lol. I actually like the modern ones better - they're more simple.

You're not alone Tonya! When I saw the word lanyard I immediately thought of the plastic lacing. When I was little I used to make them using the braid that's used for braided headbands.
