Default how to measure the ribbon...

I want to make a layered bow, and don't know how long I should cut each layer. I wanted to use 7/8 for the top layer (boutique bow), then have the surrounding loops made out of 5/8, and the bottom layer (probably a boutique bow too) out of 1.5 inch ribbon. Help!

What size do you want the finished bow?

I can't seem to figure this out either! I have seen charts online with guidelines and it never turns out! I have been winging it....

I use 7/8 for my base and top bows and 3/8 for my loops. I mesure in .5" from each side and then mark centre and mid points.

base bow I use 21"
top bow 17"
loops 19"
spikes cut 5 at 4.5" each

this makes a bow that measures approxx 3.5" to go smaller I subtract 2" from each measurement ( spikes I make 4")for a 3" bow
to go larger I add 2" ( spkies 5") for a 4" bow

I find if I don't measure and mark out then my bows don't look right!

Thank you! I tried winging it, but it turns out disproportionate. I just didn't want to keep waisting the ribbon. I'll try this methond tonight. Thank you so much for posting!!!

Just took a quick peek at your web site - very nice bows, I totally love the rose bow!

Yes, the mesurements help a lot! One more question though, do you make a pinwheel bow or boutique bow for the bottom layer? (I did the top layer and the loops by your mesurements, and they nest perfectly)
