Default 1st attempt at Ruffled Sock - Please help!

Been wanting to try these for a while. Ordered adorable ones from RufflesandRibbons to match my daughter's Easter dresses because I knew I would not perfect these by then. I am a NOVICE sewer (sp??)

The first 2 pictures are my first attempt - it is a double layer (7/8" on bottom, 5/8" on top).....I CANNOT get it to lay flat. I used about 18" around and stretched the sock out like the instructions (from girlythings...mixed with others from youtube, etc.) Any ideas???? Is the ribbon sewn too much to the sock? Is that why it is flipping???

The next picture is from my 2nd attempt, this time with just a 7/8" single layer. They seem to lay a little better, but I am still not happy with them.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. I really want to learn to do these for my girls. I love bobbie socks on them and they are so hard to find in stores.

Thanks Ladies!!!

I don't have any tips. I've been wanting to do these but have been too scared. What kind of socks did you use?

I just used Circo socks from Target - I think a 10 pack was $6.50. I just bought the first set I found to experiment.

Oh, I "misspoke". The instructions are from TRR website.

Anyone have any thoughts????

If you can find some nylon socks the shouldn't roll. If your child has a pair tights that are to small you can use them.

Haven't tried this yet but it might work to gather the ribbon some first. then you wouldnt have to stretch the sock out so much.

I make these all the time.

I use more ribbon, and stretch the sock as much as possbible while sewing and it looks like you used a straight stitch, but I use the "v" stitch.
