Default question about starching and baking?

I am just learning how to make bows . I see you have to bake korkers to make them stay but I see people posting about starching and baking other bows. They said that if you do this if they get crunched they'll spring back pretty much. So my question is : do ya'll starch all of your bows? And how much starch? Do you saturate them are just give them a light misting? Thank you for any help.

On starching you have to find the happy medium. I give mine a good spray. I have baked my twisted boutique bows but only solid colors and had good results. The starching for me is quicker and since I can do both prints, dots, or solids it works great. I use a spray bottle mixed with Sta-Flo starch and water about a 70/30 mixture, 70 starch and 30 water. You'll really need to experiment. Too much starch will cause flaking white stuff. HTH!

I am newer to making bows too! When i started i just tested on a couple bows before i did alot of them. I don't know where you get your ribbon but some of the prints don't bake or starch well. I have zebra print from hobby lobby and if i starch or bake it, it bleeds

So am I correct in thinking that you either bake OR starch , but not both at the same time? Thank you.

Some people do both. You have to be careful with the prints and dots if you bake like they said earlier. Prints and dots are put on the ribbon by a heat transfer process and if the temp is too hot it bleeds and it will in your oven too. I wet any ribbon that I bake especially my korker ribbon and I bake at lower temps so mine don't bleed usually. I try to avoid ribbon that is completely printed including the base color, i.e. white on the back, because IMO it bleeds badly.
