Default Thread for tulle flowers?

For those of you who make the fabric flowers out of tulle (like these: http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php...page=&includes[]=tags&includes[]=title)
what kind of thread do you use? I tried using regular sewing machine thread and it just slipped through the holes in the tulle. What would be a better choice? Embroidery thread? Do I need a special needle for that? Thanks!

I use dental floss. :X With a big knot to start & tack it down with a couple stitches. For those wanting to make them, you just use any fabric flower tut (and there are tons available for free on here) but use tulle instead.

I use upholstery thread for almost everything including these- I just knot it 2 or 3 times with these.

I use quilting thread for mine. But I make a big knot by licking my finger wrapping the thread around my finger and rolling my thumb over my finger off the end. Makes a perfect BIG knot evertime.
You can also start by doubling your thread. Then when doing your first stitch but dont pull it all the way through to the knot. Seperate the two strings and insert your needle between them then pull it tight.

Thanks for the suggestions ladies. I never thought to make the knot bigger. I like the idea of using dental floss, partly because I have that on hand I hope I have some that isn't mint waxed....my flowers are gonna smell like toothpaste

That's why I started using it!! Thread kept breaking so I thought "hey - I have something stronger!!" I use it to sew korkers too. Minty fresh every time!
