The fabric is spandex. I see it in limited color and supply at Joann's where I live. However the internet has two great sites in particular for spandex fabric.....

Spandex World

Spandex House

Either one sells most every color available and also some great prints as well. Be prepared, spandex is not cheap, but a little goes a very long way.

Thank you soooo much for your response... would you just attach to ribbon with some type of fabric bonding???

sorry I'm so "bow illiterate"....

TIA,
Dina

Yes some very pretty spandex in cheer bows these days. Spandex is also a popular choice because it doesn't really fray when you cut it. I wish those sites would let me buy 1/2 a yard though. A yard will make a lot of bows and it's rather expensive too if you want to get more colors. Yes you fuse the fabric to your ribbon. I think most use heat n bond or heat n bond lite, works the same way as sequins. Though I wonder if fabric glue or hot glue would also work.

I am not sure that fabric or hot glue would work. I would think that you wouldn't get that smooth finish like you do with the heat n bond. I sometimes wonder about spray adhesive. However, as messy as I think it would be I don't think I will be trying it anytime soon.

I guess I'll stick with the tried and true method. LOL

I have seen some bows from experienced bow makers and they have used some type of thin glue to attach fabric layers. I'm not sure what it is but it's not heat n bond, and somehow their fabric is smooth and not even lumpy where the glue is. I wonder what they're using.

That's a good question. Maybe it's the double sided fabric tape? Is the fabric stuck to the ribbon like heat n bond from end to end? Or is there only a thin strip of it down the center?

I've seen some from internet cheer bow sites. I just thought it was the double sided fabric tape. It wasn't fused side to side just down the middle.

forgot to say that it was pretty easy to peel off the fabric layer so it may not be the sturdiest way to do it. but it was not double sided tape. it was some sort of very thin glue-type thing and there was one strip of glue along each edge of the fabric and sometimes the middle too. I think both the regular fabric glue and hot glue would leave lumps unless they are very skilled and know a better way to handle it lol
